Towards a Cultural Strategy2013 – 2016 for Haringey To create a Cultural Strategy which is a: • Single overarching plan for people and organisations working across the whole spectrum of the cultural sector in Haringey: a shared vision • Framework for collaboration between the cultural sectorand the many other agencies working in the Borough to improve the economic and social well being of people and communities in Haringey

A snapshot of the geographic, social and cultural context within the borough has been prepared covering, for example: e.g. Who is participating in cultural activity now? e.g. How much funding are regional and national agencies investing in projects, organisations and communities in Haringey? e.g. What is going on? Where? e.g. How do factors like unemployment, wealth and poverty, transport influence what is going on? e.g. How many people are employed in the cultural sector? This is a starting point or baseline to measure change …… NB This paper is available to download from Haringey Council website and is being sent by email to guests attending consultation workshops

Towards a Cultural Strategy2013 – 2016 for Haringey • ‘Culture’ is important in many ways in shaping Haringey: through diverse identities and heritages, cultural expression, cultural services, cultural industries and creative and entrepreneurial individuals and communities. • The importance of Haringey’s ‘cultural offer’ highlighted in consultations following the riots of 2011 and development of the Strategy for Young People 2011-2014 • Joint approaches to key issues affecting the future of the Borough: ‘One borough one future’ • Backdrop of economic downturn and reduced public sector resources

Towards a Cultural Strategy2013 – 2016 for Haringey Possible objectives? • Strengthen the cultural economy and increase business start-ups, employment and training in the cultural sector • Foster the creativity, enterprise and talent of young people in the borough • Work in partnership to encourage a thriving cultural sector • Maximise the regeneration, economic and social impacts of culture in Haringey, particularly for people and communities in the least privileged areas of the borough • Enhance Haringey’s reputation and profile in London and beyond as a place with a strong cultural economy and a distinctive cultural identity and offer
