  3. 1. Formation of BEC • Bdr Seri Botani - Newest Housing Estate in Ipoh. (5 years old). • Identification of Catholic Families by previous PAT member. • Called for 1st Gathering in May 2010. • Formally formed on 15th July, 2010. BEC BSB (St Bonaventure) • Initiated with 15 Families.

  4. 2. BEC – THE JOYS & SORROWS Bandar Seri Botani, Ipoh 18th December, 2012.

  5. A. JOYS • Sharing of reflection papers. • Praying together. • Breaking of bread. • Fellowship. • Meeting members in monthly gathering.

  6. A. JOYS • Positive response from members attending monthly gatherings. • Cooperation to undertake BEC projects – advent/lenten outreach.

  7. A. JOYS • Community building – Catholics & non Catholics. • Emotional & compassionate support for the sick & bereaved members. • Caring for each other – sick, church, holidays.

  8. A. JOYS • Share current issues in country. • Invite new parishioners to join in monthly gathering. • Render assistance to BEC members in need.

  9. B. SORROWS • Not all members willing to open home. • Shy to share reflection papers. • Only want to recite the rosary. • Absence of youth.

  10. B. SORROWS • Not willing to say “opening or closing prayers.” • Misunderstanding amongst members. • Poor attendance.

  11. B. SORROWS • Members not willing to take over leadership/core-team. • Different level of understanding. • Lapsed Catholics. • Gossips.

  12. C. WAY FORWARD • Serve with patience & love. • Involvement of members. • Listen attentively. • Grow in faith together. • Unity – BEC members.

  13. C. WAY FORWARD • Collaborate with Parish Priest/PAT/Other BECs. • Learn/share experiences from other Parishes. • Never “GIVE UP” attitude. • Prayers.

  14. 3. Reaching out to Non Catholics/Non Christians. • Advent Outreach to share the joy of being Catholic through Christmas fellowship. • Lenten Outreach to the sick, poor, lonely. • Invite Non Christians to share during BEC Gatherings. • Model Family. • Involvement in community activities.

Role of Core Team • A BEC Core Team is made up of Leader, Asst Leader, Messengers, Youth, Treasurer. • Leader – to organize monthly gatherings, aware of happenings in BEC/Church, attend monthly BEC Leaders meeting, etc… • Asst Leader – To collaborate with the BEC Leader. • Youth – To participate & take up leadership role in future. • Messenger- Disseminate information to all members. • Treasurer – To keep proper accounts which are transparent.
