  2. Why have the Finance Academy? • To challenge top finance students at the University of Illinois to reach for higher levels of excellence in finance • To build confidence and capability in students so that they will be prepared for leadership positions in finance 2

  3. The Finance Academy • An honors-like program • Creating a program for excellence in Finance • Comprised of Juniors and Seniors who have been top achievers in their classes • Application process is beginning now • Applications available in Finance Department (340 Wohlers) 3

Finance Academy’s Vision • Actively participate in weekly class sessions during junior and senior years • For University of Illinois “credit” (all four semesters), subject to approval by the University of Illinois Administration • Finance Academy participation can count as one item required to qualify students as a “James Scholar” • A commitment to learning and accomplishment going forward • Earn at least a 3.50 GPA for all classes each quarter during four Finance Academy semesters to remain in good standing • Expectations: • Become an “Expert” in technical tools • Have a current awareness and understanding of contemporary issues in Finance • Focus on communication, managerial and leadership skills 5

Is the Finance Academy for me? • Strong academic performance overall and a real commitment to the field of Finance • Already demonstrates strong analytical capability • Leadership potential (previous track record preferred)‏ • Professional focus (strong communication skills)‏ • Ability to look to the world outside the classroom • Well rounded interests • Upstanding citizen (“integrity”) and a sense of community 6

Finance Academy Selection Process • Students will be considered from three pools • Students who are invited to apply on the basis of past accomplishment • Students recommended by professors in the College • Students who apply to the Academy on their own • Applications required and to include: • Student resume • Student essay • Recommendation from a professor, if possible • Interview • Selection committee will make final recommendations 8
