  3. Marine Forces Reserve Mission To augment and reinforce active Marine forces in time of war, national emergency, contingency operations and provide personnel and operational tempo relief for the active forces in peace time.

  4. 1st Battalion, 23d Marines Mission To locate, close with, and destroy the enemy by fire and maneuver or to repel his assault by fire and close combat.
