  1. Capitulaciones Las capitulaciones son contratos de carácter público por los cuales la Corona de Castilla le encomienda a un caudillo la realización de un determinado servicio público, sea descubrir (en forma naval o terrestre), poblar o rescatar. En esta capitulación se le hace un encargo a un particular, quien se obliga a llevarlo a efecto (incluso se le puede fijar un plazo). La corona y el caudillo se obligan recíprocamente por la capitulación.
