To move ideas and expertise from our universities and colleges into in new or existing companies, creating new or improved products and services.

To focus on economic development through academic-industry engagement and technology and know-how transfer.

Springboard accelerates academic and industry innovation by:

  • pushing academic IP out to real-world applications,

  • engaging industry to encourage academic – industry collaborations and solves industry problems.

    Springboard supports the commercialization of post-secondary research in Atlantic Canada with resources:

    To encourage IP transfer to the region’s private sector.

    To help increase industry engagement and awareness of the expertise available in each major community.

  • Enable Members’ new tech & knowhow to be developed for commercial use.

  • Help improve Members’ practices

  • Help companies connect to R&D resources (technologies, knowhow and capabilities) for improving products, processes and services.

Our programs initiatives

Our Programs & Initiatives

  • FTE program funds key positions (ILO/TTOs) in institutions to link academics to industry

  • Innovation Mobilization funds events and Member technology development.

  • Many trial programs designed to help increase commercialization and industry R&D collaboration


Springboard network

NSERC-IRAP-Springboard:

Atlantic I-USRA Trial Program

  • A pilot program in Atlantic Canada - Goals:

    • increase company use of I-USRA in Atlantic Canada,

    • increase institution engagement with SMEs (IRAP clients, Co-ops)

    • Increase industry R&D opportunities for undergraduate students; 4 month research co-op (anytime of the year), scholarship.

  • Steps:

    • NSERC registers companies; Companies find students – apply for the I-USRA

    • NSERC provides $4500 reimbursement (4 month period) to the company

    • IRAP eligible Companies receive $2000 from Springboard Atlantic

    • Company cost: a minimum of $1125 for 4 month award.
