  1. IONS FOR LHC (I-LHC) Linac3, injection & ejection lines, LEIR, PS TIMING for Power converters Jean-Pierre Royer AB/PO Timing I-LHC/LEIR Presented by J.P. Royer

  2. Power converters summaryin regard of the timing All characteristics of the power converters are in the PO data-base : ProgramsFile maker proOpen an existing file hosts PSPC7840Accueil ions LHC Type of power converters, Name of responsible, Current max, type of control, electronics crate etc… etc…etc Timing I-LHC/LEIR Presented by J.P. Royer

  3. Power converters summaryin regard of the timing • Each Timing pulse transit by a cable. • Timing for a power converter  pulse ~30Volts, ~1 microsecond • This pulse impose an event in the power converter • To speak about timing  to speak about control Timing I-LHC/LEIR Presented by J.P. Royer

  4. Timing and control summary(1) Timing I-LHC/LEIR Presented by J.P. Royer

  5. Timing and control summary(2) Timing I-LHC/LEIR Presented by J.P. Royer

  6. Power converters network summary Mil 1553: idem network PS RS 422: Commercial power converters PLC S7/300: system electron cooling Control RF: system RF (PLC) Timing I-LHC/LEIR Presented by J.P. Royer

  7. Power converters GFA and OASIS summary GFA : A : Analogue (DAC output provided by CO at its rack) O+A: Optical interface 2*A: Two analogue signals for VGUN electron cooling S: Serial digital OASIS: Yes or No: No oasis for DC power converters SCO-A: analogue output from converter (sampler provided by CO at its rack) O+SCO-A: Isolated (Optical) sampler HT area electron cooling Timing I-LHC/LEIR Presented by J.P. Royer

  8. Timing acquisition summary Type of timing in data –base PO: A one pulse for Acquisition with control 1553 B one pulse for Acquisition with control RS 422 D Timing for discharge capacitors EIX.ACQN-POW : E (LEAR), I (injection), X (timing), ACQN (acquisition), POW(power) EEX.ACQN-POW : E (LEAR), E (ejection), X (timing), ACQN (acquisition), POW (power) Clock : 10 MHZ Position in the cycle: Beam Timing I-LHC/LEIR Presented by J.P. Royer

  9. Pulsed Dipoles 5 Hz Power Supplies • characteristics : - output current : +/- 20 A - flat top stability < - flat-top duration : 1 ms - 5 Hz repetition rate - charging voltage : 600 V - modification of the power supplies used for the Booster injection dipoles • simplified schematic 14 Units Timing I-LHC/LEIR Presented by J.P. Royer

  10. Example with the Pulsed dipoles 5 Hz power supplies • FW charge of the capacitors • W stop the charge of the capacitors, disconnect the regulation loop to prepare the discharge. • ST discharge of the capacitors • AQN measure of the current magnet, passage of the beam. • All the pulses timing are referred on the beam ( ex: W -12 msec before the beam) • The principle is the same for all the discharge power converters. Timing I-LHC/LEIR Presented by J.P. Royer

  11. Timing for current dipoles 5Hz (1) FW W ST AQN Timing I-LHC/LEIR Presented by J.P. Royer

  12. Timing for current dipoles 5Hz (2) ST AQN Ch4: Timing Start Ch1: Im 4A/div Timing I-LHC/LEIR Presented by J.P. Royer

  13. Current dipoles 5Hz Timing I-LHC/LEIR Presented by J.P. Royer

  14. Timing Dipoles and Quads 5 Hz • Same FW and W for all Dipoles and Quads 5HZ • 2 START for Dipoles and Quadripoles ( difference of load) BEAM Timing I-LHC/LEIR Presented by J.P. Royer

  15. Timing discharge capacitors power converters summary EIX.FW DIP-QUAD : E (LEAR), I (injection ), X (timing), FW (forewarning), DIP-QUAD (Dipoles-quads) EIX.W DIP-QUAD : E (LEAR), E (ejection), X (timing), W (warning), DIP-QUAD (power) Clock : 1 KHZ Position in the cycle: see the table EIX. ST1-DIP and EIX.ST2-DIP Start dipôles EIX.ST1-QUAD and EIX.ST2-QUAD Start quadripôles Clock : 1 MHZ Position in the cycle: see the table Timing I-LHC/LEIR Presented by J.P. Royer

  16. Timing ejection septum and injection PS prevision ST-SMH40 ST-SMH26 ST-BSW26 3 different START Timing I-LHC/LEIR Presented by J.P. Royer

  17. Conclusion • - For the power converters all the timing requirements are defined (except TT2) • - Some adjustments will be necessary (ex: start discharge capacitors) • - Timing for TT2 must be defined with mode protons or ions and degaussing • Good collaboration with CO (ex: test dipoles 5Hz with external timing) • Cables network (1553,422), timing, oasis, GFA will be installed by CO, in progress.
