  3. Who Can Join HMEI Companies developing, manufacturing, marketing and selling hydrological, meteorological, climatological, environmental, oceanographic instruments and related hardware, software, systems, services or providing related support systems.

  4. Mission Statement The Association of Hydro-Meteorological Equipment Industry (HMEI) promotes the views of the private industry providers of products and services in the meteorological, hydrological, environmental, oceanographic and related fields.The Association is fully accredited to the WMO and other UN organizations and actively facilitates interaction and communication between its members and a broad range of international and national organizations, both governmental and private, for the mutual benefit of all parties.

  5. Association Objectives • Establish and maintain communication between developers, manufacturers and service providers within the Hydro-Meteo industry i.e. those providing instruments and systems to the industry worldwide and to provide a forum for discussion and resolution of matters of mutual concern; • Represent, communicate and defend, at an international level, the views of the hydro-meteorological instruments and systems industry, thereby ensuring a voice for the industry in discussions and resolutions concerning designs, standards and operations of environmental, meteorological and hydrological instruments and equipment; • Collect and disseminate, at an international level, information relative to the hydro-meteorological instruments and systems industry; • Represent the hydro-meteorological instruments and systems industry by participation as an observer in the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) Congress and active participation at appropriate WMO technical commission meetings; • Promote and contribute to standardization world-wide in the meteorological and hydrological fields, including, defence of the interests of its members with relation to rules, guidelines and government policies, such as ISO standardization;  • Advance the environmental, meteorological, hydrological and oceanographic sciences worldwide.

Membership Benefits • HMEI seeks to have representatives at relevant meetings and forums including those of WMO, and to disseminate resulting information among members • The HMEI website with the HMEI Members Product Catalogue, Members news and Association information • HMEI Newsletter – including business opportunities open to all member companies and information about Members • Representation of Members interests to the public, industry and government • Liaison and cooperation with other associations and international organizations • Active participation in development of standards and specificationsrelated to methods of measurement and calibration

  14. Activities HMEI attended 17 meetings and several exhibitions during 2010. Reports on these events appeared in the bimonthly Newsletters and are also on the HMEI website. Some of the main meetings and exhibitions attended by HMEI in 2010 are: AMS Atlanta, RA-I Marrakech, RA-III Bogota, RAV Bali, AWS Geneva, NCAS Manchester, WIS Geneva, Executive Council Geneva, Climate Services Geneva, GRUAN II Payerne, Ministers Meeting Nairobi, CCl Turkey, CAgM Brazil, China Radiosonde Intercomparison, CIMO Helsinki, CBS Namibia, JCOMM Ostende.

  16. AMDAR Water Vapor Sensors • The HMEI membership was polled for any products related to AMDAR • Only one HMEI Member provides products for AMDAR, the Water Vapor Sensing System, WVSS-II • WVSS-II from SpectraSensors, Inc.
