  12. AUDIENCE • 8th& 9th std. students of partner schools • From low socio economic background • Limited knowledge of English language, in spite of learning English as a subject • Hardly any opportunities to speak in English

  13. Why Volunteer for Spoken English Programme

  14. Outcome from the student • You are expected to help the student to speak in a better manner, the following : • Meet/Greet/Depart • Ask information • Provide information • Ask for assistance • Provide assistance • Express feelings • Telephone conversation

  15. Issues in volunteering • Students do not open up in the beginning • Your expectation may not match with that of the student (even in basic fundas) • Students may not be able to adjust to your pace to achieve the “ desired” result. It is practically impossible to “quantify the result of volunteering” always. • Untimely cancellations- KEF would inform of such cancellations • Certain infrastructural problems • Drinking water • Unclean washroom • Inability to stick with the calendar • Unlit and badly-ventilated classrooms

  16. Certain Things to be borne in mind while Volunteering at KEF • We all are here to give back to the society….as a moral responsibility.. • Every student is unique…no comparison between students.. • Being sensitive to our students.. • Spoken English Sessions are fun classes-Make the sessions interesting and joyful • Decent behavior and dress code • You are the student’s role model-Use of proper and correct language while interacting with students. • In case of insufficient knowledge, don’t give wrong information rather tell them that you will get back to them with correct information. • KEF is a no punishment zone
