  1. Earth’s Crust By Amy Calleja

  2. Earth is made up of many different rocks. There is the crust, the mantle, the outer core and the inner core.

  3. Earth’s Crust. The first layer is about 10 miles of rock and loose materials. Scientists call this layer the crust. Underneath the continents, the crust is almost three times as thick, as it is under the oceans.

  4. The Mantle •  The mantle extends to a depth of nearly 1,800 miles, and is made of a thick solid rocky substance that represents about 85% of the total weight and mass of the Earth.

  5. The outer Core. The outer core, which is the third layer,is over 3000 miles from the crust. It is believed that the outer core is made up of super hot melted rock with lava. This lava is believed to be mostly iron and nickel.

  6. The Inner core • The inner core extends another 900 miles inward towards the centre of the Earth. It is believed that this inner core is a solid ball of mostly iron and nickel.
