  5. S a f e P r a c t i c e s • Lack of pre-lab preparation is the biggest threat to lab safety.

  7. S a f e P r a c t i c e s • Contact lenses should NOT be worn during labs.

  8. S a f e P r a c t i c e s • L o n g h a i r a n d b u l k y c l o t h i n g a r e d a n g e r o u s i n t h e l a b a r e a .

  9. S a f e P r a c t i c e s • Rings, loose watches, and dangling jewelry are dangerous while conducting labs.

  13. C u t s & S c r a p e s • Report immediately. • There is always a possibility of infection. • Do not come into contact with another person’s blood.

  14. C h e m i c a l S p i l l s • You are to treat all spills as d a n g e r o u s . • Stop where you are and let Mrs. Summerlin advise you about what to do.

  15. C h e m i c a l S p i l l s • Always consult the proper Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) before doing anything.

  16. F i r e • When you are not actively heating something – turn the burner OFF. • Lab burners are the source of most problems.

  17. F i r e • Paper is the most common type of fire in the lab. • If a paper fire occurs, push the paper into the lab sink and turn on the water.

  18. F i r e • Clothing or hair is the most dangerous type of fire in the lab. • If you are the one involved in a fire – stay where you are, help is coming!!

  19. F i r e • If the fire is not at your lab station – STAY AWAY!!!!

  20. F i r e • If your partner is involved in a fire – get the fire blanket!!!!

  21. F i r e • Mrs. Summerlin is the only one authorized to use the fire extinguisher.
