  1. OIL x TMB: A Collaboration to Establish CBG Plants in Tinsukia Town of Assam The number of initiatives and policies the Indian government and companies are taking to establish a chain of compressed biogas plants in the country is no longer unknown. Compressed biogas, a green and clean fuel primarily consisting of methane (CH4), is an excellent and cost-effective substitute for commercial gases. Increasing CBG production helps India significantly reduce its dependence on crude oil imports. In addition, it gives a healthy boost to the economy and the environment. One such initiative that has been in the limelight is the collaboration between Oil India Ltd (OIL) and Tinsukia Municipal Board (TMB). Their aim is to turn MSW (Municipal Solid Waste) into a compressed biogas plant. This initiative is also a testament to their commitment to sustainable waste management practices. An Memorandum of Understanding was signed to confirm the collaboration at the commissioner’s office of the Tinsukia district. Oil India Ltd states, “The MoU marked the commencement of a joint venture that aims to establish compressed biogas plants based on municipal solid waste in the district.”

  2. This CBG project is anticipated to have a substantial impact on the environment by decreasing landfill waste and increasing the production of clean energy. As per the agreement terms, Oil India Limited will provide administrative and technical assistance, considering its biogas expertise. They will also deploy consultants to develop a DPR (Detailed Project Report), ensuring the successful execution of the compressed biogas plants. The daily CBG production capacity at the Tinsukia CBG plant is expected to be around 2 tonnes. Thus, the plant will heavily rely on the municipal board to regulate the daily supply of 40-50 tonnes of segregated municipal solid waste. In addition, the Tinsukia Municipal Board has committed to allocating about six to eight acres of land for setting up the CBG plant in this district. The agreement was signed by Pabitra Gogoi, chairman of Tinsukia Municipal Board, and Madhurjya Chaliha, Manager (PR) of Oil India Limited. It was done in the presence of Swapneel Paul, the Tinsukia district commissioner, and other top-level authorities from OIL and the Tinsukia district administration. Apart from the OIL x TMB collaboration, there are two recent announcements to establish the CBG plant infrastructure in India. The first is a partnership between IOCL (Indian Oil Corporation) and GPS Renewables - a biofuel technology company from Bengaluru. Another announcement comes from IGL (Indraprastha Gas). They will develop nineteen CBG plants across four states in the country. Source: https://biogaspurifier.odoo.com/collaboration-to-establish-cbg-plants-in-tinsukia-town-of- assam
