  1. How to close an Unresponsive MS Access Query in the CAP Server Environment World Famous “Endless Hour Glass” Minnesota State Colleges and Universities Reporting and Data Services (RADS) May 22, 2008

  2. Question: I am using MS Access in the CAP server environment. The query is running and I see an endless hour glass. How do I stop the query without shutting down the entire CAP session? BTW - I tried doing a Ctrl+Alt+ Delete command, but all it does is stop my CAP session. I think the Access process is still running in the background. HELP!

  3. Answer Please do not use the Ctrl+Alt+Delete command in CAP. It is ineffective. It kills your CAP session but the Access query continues to spin on the server behind the scenes -consuming valuable server resources. This slows the server down for everyone. The correct way to stop or “kill” an endless Access query (within CAP) is on the few next pages.

  4. Method #1 Right Click on the gray colored CAP session toolbar, (anywhere after the CAP session Start button)

  5. Or Method #2 Left click the… 1. CAP Session Start button 2. Select Settings 3. Select Windows Security 4. Select Task Manager

  6. Windows Task Manager opens Select the process you want to stop Click “End Task”

  7. The Access process will end and you will be left with an open and active CAP session. Close the Windows Task Manager and continue working in CAP. Close
