  1. YEAR 10 CLASS OF 2013 Your aims are: 1. to take an active role in group discussion, 2. to discuss, in detail, all the topics you are given, 3. to devise four key questions to ask your new principal, Mr Angell.

  2. Learning Objectives to understand the key features of good group discussion: to work effectively as part of a team.

  3. Group Discussions Discussions will now focus on key areas of school life that affect you every day, areas in which you may want to see changes, areas that you can question Mr Angell about, find out his opinion/ experience. In your group explore these areas and decide what you would like to ask his opinion about. Make a note of your key questions.

  4. The school day: Starting/ finishing times Number of lessons in a day Tutor time at beginning and end of day Assemblies at end of day Length and timing of break/ lunch times.

  5. The curriculum and timetable: option subjects subjects on offer core, compulsory subjects split classes, numbers in classes.

  6. Uniform, jewellery and equipment: include P.E. Kit equipment for lessons/ exams.

  7. Vertical tutoring system: What other tutor groups have you experienced? Is this system better than others? What are the advantages/ disadvantages?

  8. Clubs and trips: Are clubs a good idea? Should they/ some be organised differently? Do you have enough quality trips provided in a good range of subject areas? Could any improvements be made?

  9. What do you want from your new head teacher? Discuss this question in your groups. You can draw up a list, if you wish, this can be handed on to Mr Angell. You can think of a couple of appropriate interview style questions to ask Mr Angell about his thoughts/ beliefs on relevant areas not already covered.
