  1. Lasagna Roll ups In the microwave

  2. Let’s review what we know about microwaves • What are microwaves attracted to? • How do microwaves cook food? • What are appropriate cooking containers? • What is cooking time? • What is standing time? • What are some ways to increase even cooking time? • What are some limitations of using the microwave? • How can you prevent burns or splattering of food?

  3. Ingredients ½ pound ground beef 1 1/4 cups spaghetti sauce (use large glass liquid measuring cup) ½ cup cottage cheese ½ cup mozzarella, grated (this will be divided, follow the directions) ¼ cup parmesan cheese 1 lasagna noodle per person in your group. Person 1 is in charge of the meat and then doing dishes Person 2 is in charge of the noodles and then cleaning up Person 3 is in charge of getting the cheeses and plastic wrap Person 4 is in charge of getting the sauce and putting it together

  4. Directions • Boil noodles for 10 minutes. (Get your water started before your group member gets the ingredients. Use the 8 qt sauce pan.) • Brown ground beef in a frying pan and drain fat (into glass jar under the sink.) (When washing the electric frying pan, do NOT submerge the electrical input in water!!) • Combine cooked ground beef and the spaghetti sauce. Set aside on a hot pad.  • Combine cottage cheese, ¼ c. mozzarella cheese and the parmesan cheese in a bowl.

  5. Spread each noodle with ¼ c. spaghetti sauce mixture. Top with cheese mixture.

  6. Starting at narrow end, roll up, being careful to keep filling inside. Place in 8 x 8 glass dish. Top noodles with remaining sauce and ¼ c. mozzarella cheese. Microwave, covered with lid or plastic wrap, on medium for 7-9 minutes. Remove the plastic wrap away from you to prevent burns. Let cool before eating. May be baked at 350 degrees for 20 minutes.

  7. While your food is cooking • Clean your kitchen and wash all dishes!!! • Get out plates and utensils, prepare to eat at your table with your group members. • Make sure you allow the lasagna to cool down or you will burn your mouth. • Scrape your plates into the garbage before washing them so the drains don’t get clogged with hamburger.

  8. When you are done eating • Put leftover food you want to take into sandwich baggies • Wash the dishes you ate off of and dish food was cooked in. (make sure glass dish is cool or it will shatter) • Wash counters and all appliances used, including inside of microwave. • Wash tables • Sweep floor, brooms are next to the fridge • Put dirty aprons, towels, and rags in the dirty laundry basket next to the washing machine. • Put away your folder and sit at your table • Last class, stack chairs.
