It is 1863....... • It is1863 and the United States is being divided in the Civil War. • Irish are also part of the struggle. • People that are not Irish could pay $300 so an Irish can take their place. • But the Irish have a different idea, This is not are war ,Let the rich free the slaves. • As the Irish are poor ,they have no choice. But they are angry which starts a riot , the worst in the United States history.

3. Katie ,a 14 year old girl • Katie is a14 year old living in New York. • Katie has 2 younger brothers and a younger sister. She also has a 19 year old brother and a dad but her mother died from sickness and weakness. • Even though she is just 14 year old , she has to go to work as a maid for the Lacey.

4. Life as a maid. • Katie is a kitchen maid. Mrs. Alberts is a mean cook who wants Katie’s job for her niece. • Mrs. Alberts is pretty much the bad person in the story , but not the only one. • Katie soon meets a man who works at the stable, and a dog named Puddy who she care’s for and risk losing her job helping them.

5. As the Irish have no choice they start a riot on the New York streets. New York streets have turned from street to war zone. Irish starts destroying everything they can see. Worst Riot in The United States history. • The Irish also get mad at the blacks and start hanging them. • It gets so bad they have to sent solider because the police are helpless.

6. Katie’s Future is looking bright. • When the riot stops everything becomes a little calmer. • Paddy the strays dog gets adopted by Mrs. Carrington • Jimmy no longer has to worry about people hurting him. • And Katie is not left out , she also becomes a personal maid for Mrs. Carrington and Mrs. Albert can give the job to her niece.
