  3. Challenges & New Roots & Affixes • Today (01/04/10) – New #8 Word Attack Lesson. • Tuesday (01/11/10) – Ten question challenge on past 32roots and affixes. This includes the new #8 lesson words. Get your name on the Word Attack Wizards List! Score 90 or Above. Never stamp an expiration date on learning! Learn for life!

  4. Want your name on the list in the hall and a chance at a prize? • Need more practice? • Visit your teacher’s webpage! • The review for all 32 words will be posted Wednesday. Self Practice Learning these makes figuring out new vocabulary easier in all my classes! All it takes is practice!

  5. 30 Photo- light Examples • Photosphere– The lowest visible layer of a star. • Photosynthesis – The process by which plants store light energy. - Our view of the sun’s photosphere is blocked during a solar eclipse.

  6. 31 Luna- Moon Example: Lunar – “of the moon” Astronaut Neil Armstrong was the first man to step foot on the lunar surface on July 16, 1969. Mentally ill people used to be called “lunatics” because people thought that moon made people crazy.

  7. 32 Equal or Equi- The same as, or balanced Examples • Equinox– (nox = night) When the Earth receives the same amount of daytime as nighttime. There is a Spring Equinox and a Fall Equinox. Why does it make sense that there is no Winter or Summer Equinox? What is different in the Winter and Summer?

  8. 32 Equal or Equi- The same as, or balanced Examples • Equilibrium– when an object is at rest because the forces are equal on all sides. • Chemical equilibrium – when a reaction occurs equally both ways. The reactants & products are equal. - The golf ball was at equilibrium on the golf tee until it was hit by the golf club. What were the equal forces? What made them unequal?

  12. Apollo was the Greek god of light and music. He drove a chariot pulling the sun across the sky. Apollo 11 was the name of the first manned mission to the moon. Apollo’s sister was named Artemis but was also had another name. She was the goddess of the moon and the hunt. What do you think her other name might be? Athena Hera Luna Mars Why do you think they didn’t name the moon missions after Artemis instead of Apollo? Might be a good question to ask the NASA people when you see them later this month.
