  2. Word Study Activities Day 1: Speed Sort Set the timer and time your sort. Do this five times. Record your five times. Day 2: Open Sort & Blind Sort Part 1 (Open Sort) Create your own headers and sort your words. (Blind Sort) Have a buddy call off ten words for you to sort and write. Write the words under the correct header. Day 3: Brainstorming & Blind Sort Part 2 (Brainstorming) Think of at least 3 new words that can be added to your sort. (Blind Sort) Have a buddy call off ten words for you to sort and write. Write the words under the correct header. Day 4: Speed Sort & Crossword (Speed Sort) Set the times and time your sort once. (Crossword Activity) Select 10 words, make a crossword and write clues for each word. Day 5: Assessment & Modeling of New Sort (Assessment) Your teacher will call off ten words from your list to sort and write. (New Sort) Your teacher will model the new sort with your group.
