    2. What is an “Active Shooter” An active shooter is a person who is actively engaged in killing or attempting to kill people, using a firearm(s), in a populated area. These situations are dynamic and evolve rapidly, demanding immediate deployment of law enforcement resources to stop the shooting and mitigate harm to innocent victims.

    3. How Will I Get Information during an Active Shooter Incident? Public Information Officer will coordinate communication efforts Information will be disseminated as soon as practicable Methods of communication are as follows:

    4. 75+ Building Safety Assistants Personal direction, bullhorns, FRS radios Gov’t Emergency Telecom Service / GETS, WPS Ham radio in the EOC, five licensed operators

    5. Satellite - four Iridium phones President, Police, EOC, Facilities Mgt. NexTel group calls Phone trees / divisions, deans, directors On-site Telecom Services / EOC, ATT liaison, 5 techs

    6. ‘All-mail’ e-mail to employees and students Electronic marquees / Harder, Carlos Bee, Theatre Hayward campus switchboard Emergency taped message line: 885-2000 News media connections / briefings

    10. Flyers and posters Dist. by BSAs, CSOs Police vehicle PA systems Portable PA systems in IMC and SLP Information tables Hillhopper, campus shuttle announcements VBT LCD TV

    14. Crisis Reporting Reminders: Call 9-1-1 (from any campus phone) to report an emergency Program 510-885-3333 into your cell phone (use this number when reporting a campus emergency from a cell phone) Be succinct and specific when reporting an emergency DO NOT CALL UPD DISPATCH FOR GENERAL INFO. DURING AN EMERGENCY (call 510-885-2000)

    15. Additional Reminders: Make safety discussions a part of your regular office/classroom routine. The goal is to be “mindful, not fearful!” Center for Personal Protection and Safety
