  4. beginnings of a legend • Clemente discovered baseball at an early age and played against neighboring barrios • During his first year at Vizcarondo High School he was recruited by SelloRojo to play softball • In 1950 when Clemente was 16 he joined Ferdinand Juncos, a Puerto Rican amateur league team

  5. Hard Work • When Clemente was nine years old, he wanted to buy a bike. To produce enough money, he began distributing milk to his neighbors. After three years, he had saved enough money for the bicycle.. "I am from the poor people," Clemente said. "I represent the poor people. I like workers.   6. First baseball contract • Even though his dad said he was to old, he played baseball until he was 18 in dirt lots. • He was eventually signed my a Puerto Rican team the Santurce Crabbers in the LBBPR (Puerto Rican Professional Baseball League).
