  10. About Reverse Transfer

  11. What is Reverse Transfer? In a traditional model, credits are transferred from the 2-year school to the 4-year school. In Reverse Transfer, credits are transferred fromUTEP to EPCC so that students may earn their associate’s degrees from EPCC.

  12. More on Reverse Transfer • SACS guidelines require 25% of credits to be earned at the degree awarding institution • Associate’s Degree of 60 credits = 15 SCH minimum at EPCC in order to award a degree

  13. Automating Reverse Transfer

  14. Prior to Automation • Degree plans were evaluated manually • Manually-derived lists were forwarded to EPCC • EPCC would manually verify degree completion • Associate’s degrees were awarded

  15. Automation Overview • Program EPCC degree plans in CAPP • Run a report each semester to identify students who are eligible to receive degrees from EPCC • Send list to EPCC for awarding of degrees

  16. What is CAPP? • CAPP is a degree audit system within the Banner Student Information System • UTEP has used CAPP on an institutional scale since Fall 2009 • Finalist for the Sungard Performance Award in 2010

  17. Articulate degree plans • Create non-visible programs • Encode CAPP areas to reflect UTEP equivalencies • Encode Texas Core requirements • Account for transfer hour limits • Require minimum hours Programming EPCC Plans in CAPP

  18. Running Batch CAPP Reports • Population selection based on most recent EPCC term and hours transferred • Run SMRBCMP for each EPCC program • Run data analysis to identify students who have completed a program • Email list • UC4 automation

  19. Award of the Associate’s Degrees • Exchange of student information permitted due to joint application • The EPCC Registrar receives our list • The EPCC Registrar confirms candidacy • EPCC contacts students • Degrees are awarded

  20. EPCC Degrees Awarded 2006 - 2010

  21. UTEP Bachelor’s Degrees Awarded to Reverse Transfer Students

  22. FAQs

  23. FAQs • Can we require a student to graduate from a two year institution? • What are our EPCC-UTEP Reverse Transfer thresholds, performance standards, and residency issues?

  24. More FAQs • How do we create a sense of value for the EPCC Associate’s Degree? • What are students required to do to receive the Associate’s Degree?

  25. The Future of Reverse Transfer in El Paso

  26. Looking to Other Schools • The State of Texas is interested in a state-wide Reverse Transfer Plan • H.B. 3025 • Questions: • How do we implement this same process for other schools? • What state-wide resources could help?

  27. Spreading to Other States • National needs for minority and economically disadvantaged students • Interest from other state systems including Oregon • Foundation of collaboration is needed. • Technique would work with any SIS/degree audit system

  28. Closing Thoughts • Importance of Reverse Transfer for minority and economically disadvantaged students. • Partnership is based on a strong foundation of collaboration between institutions. • Technique can work with any degree audit system.
