  8. Preliminary Paleomagnetism • M Jurassic Bowser Turb’s • Late syn-tectonic (Paleogene?) remagnetization • Predates extensional veins • Not rotated • L Jurassic Hazelton Volc’s • Indeterminate stability (tilt and conglomerate tests: Remanence could pre- or post-date tilting • Flows and sediments • Large CCW rotation • Triassic Stuhini Turbidites • Negative tilt test: Remanence post-dates major tilting • Predates extensional veins • Large CCW rotation • Similar to Stuhini Turbidites • Permian Stikine Limestones

  9. Conclusions • The sub-Bowser Group (pre-Middle Jurassic) suffered a pervasive hydrothermal event.

  10. Conclusions • The sub-Bowser Group (pre-Middle Jurassic) suffered a pervasive hydrothermal event. • This event was probably driven by heat from the Lower Jurassic Hazelton volcanics and was accompanied by severe deformation.

  11. Conclusions • The sub-Bowser Group (pre-Middle Jurassic) suffered a pervasive hydrothermal event. • This event was probably driven by heat from the Lower Jurassic Hazelton volcanics and was accompanied by severe deformation. • Subsequent tectonics, including the Skeena Fold Belt Orogeny, left little observable diagenetic alteration.

  12. • The Bowser Group was affected by a late syntectonic hydrothermal event, showing that there were multiple fluid events in the basin.

  13. Oil Released During Sampling • Seen in turbidites, limestones and even volcanics
