  1. Welcome To The Services Of The Dunlap church of Christ Questions? Just Let Us Know!

  2. I Peter 3:10-17 “For he that will love life, and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile: (11) Let him eschew evil, and do good; let him seek peace, and ensue it.”

  3. (12) For the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and his ears are open unto their prayers: but the face of the Lord is against them that do evil. (13) And who is he that will harm you, if ye be followers of that which is good?”

  4. (14) But and if ye suffer for righteousness' sake, happy are ye: and be not afraid of their terror, neither be troubled; (15) But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:”

  5. (16) Having a good conscience; that, whereas they speak evil of you, as of evildoers, they may be ashamed that falsely accuse your good conversation in Christ. (17) For it is better, if the will of God be so, that ye suffer for well doing, than for evil doing.”

  6. Why? Why Do We Believe What We Believe? Why Do We Do What We Do? Why Do We Oppose What We Oppose?

  7. Why? Why We Believe That Miracles Have Ceased

  8. Concerning Those Who Believe In Miracles Today • Some rely on miracles – not seeking medical help • Some seek medical help – still think it’s a miracle • Some have Faith Healing services (i.e. Benny Hinn) The Reason (?) Behind It? Many Believe That Holy Spirit Baptism Is For Believers Today Just As The Apostles Had

  9. Why We Believe That Miracles Have Ceased I. The Purpose Is Accomplished

  10. I. The Purpose Is Accomplished A. Not for the physical betterment of men (Not all were physically helped) B. Confirmation of the message / prove the claims 1. Mark 16:17-20 2. Hebrews 2:3-4 C. Reveal the word 1. John 16:13; 14:26 2. Word is complete (Jude 3; II Peter 1:3) D. Prove Gentiles are gospel subjects (Acts 11:18)

  11. Confirm The Message, Prove The Claims Mark 16:17-20“And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; (18) They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover. (19) So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God. (20) And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen.”

  12. Confirm The Message, Prove The Claims Hebrews 2:1-4 Therefore we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, lest at any time we should let them slip. (2) For if the word spoken by angels was stedfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just recompence of reward;”

  13. (3) How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him; (4) God also bearing them witness, both with signs and wonders, and with divers miracles, and gifts of the Holy Ghost, according to his own will?” WORD HAD BEEN CONFIRMED!

  14. Reveal The Word John 16:13 “Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.” John 14:26 “But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.”

  15. Reveal The Word Word Is Complete Jude 3 “Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.” II Peter 1:3 “According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:”

  16. Prove Gentiles Are Gospel Subjects Acts 11:15-18 “And as I began to speak, the Holy Ghost fell on them, as on us at the beginning. (16) Then remembered I the word of the Lord, how that he said, John indeed baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost.”

  17. (17) Forasmuch then as God gave them the like gift as he did unto us, who believed on the Lord Jesus Christ; what was I, that I could withstand God? (18) When they heard these things, they held their peace, and glorified God, saying, Then hath God also to the Gentiles granted repentance unto life.”

  18. I. The Purpose Is Accomplished

  19. Why We Believe That Miracles Have Ceased I. The Purpose Is Accomplished II. Holy Spirit Baptism Has Ceased

  20. II. Holy Spirit Baptism Has Ceased Only Two Cases: Acts 1:4-5; 2:1-21 Apostles • Reveal truth (John 16:13) • Show things to come (John 16:13) • Teach all things (John 14:26) • Bring all things to remembrance (John 14:26) • Testify of Christ (John 15:26) Acts 10:44-48; 11:15-18; Acts 15:7-9 House of Cornelius • Show that Gentiles are gospel subjects (Acts 11:18)

  21. There Is No Promise Of Holy Spirit Baptism For Anyone Today!

  22. II. Holy Spirit Baptism Has Ceased Only Two Cases Of Such, Now There Is Only One Baptism. Ephesians 4:5 – “There is one baptism”

  23. Why We Believe That Miracles Have Ceased I. The Purpose Is Accomplished II. Holy Spirit Baptism Has Ceased III. Would Cease With The Complete Revelation

  27. I Corinthians 13:8-10 “Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away. (9) For we know in part, and we prophesy in part. (10) But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away.”

  28. What Would Happen To Spiritual Gifts? Fail Cease Vanish Away

  29. Two Views of I Corinthians 13 Miracles Continue Until “Perfect” Comes Miracles Continue Until “Perfect” Comes

  33. Ephesians 4:11-16 “And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; (12) For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:”

  34. (13) Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ: (14) That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;

  35. (15) But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ: (16) From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love.”

(22) Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? (23) And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
