Responsibilities • Football games (all squad members cheer for the Valley Championship, State Playoffs, and State Championship) • Volleyball (Varsity cheers for Girls and Frosh/JV cheers for Boys and all will cheer for Valley Championship and State Playoffs) • Basketball (JV and Frosh will cheer for playoffs) • Senior Night for all sports • Unified Sports • Special Olympics at Central

  4. Cheer Selection Criteria • Knowledge of material (Let’s go Central, Level Up, and clinic dance) • Execution of material • Toe touch • Secondary jump (double jump, hurdler, or pike) • Tumbling • Showmanship

  5. Pep Selection Criteria • Turns • Toe touch • Leaps • Kick line • Specialty skills • Knowledge of material (Shut Down Dance, kick line, and sideline cheer) • Execution of material • Showmanship

  6. Criteria for Losing Points • -2 overall for GPA 2.5 or lower • -2 overall for each negative teacher evaluation- not receiving teacher evaluation will result in negative points • -2 overall for a negative coach’s evaluation • -2 overall for poor attendance (absences and tardies) • -2 overall for losing points for defiance during the previous year of pep or cheer

  7. CLAWS • All athletes will have to answer a question in regards to the following. They should know the claws in the handbook and how they apply to Central Pep and Cheer. • Come Prepared: Natural colored hair during season (August through May) • Live Responsibly: Be on time with proper attire • Act Safely: NO JEWELRY!! Best time to get piercings is the 3 week summer break and winter break. • Work Together • Show Respect

Judges • Janel Haas- Varsity Competition Cheer Coach (cheer tryouts) • Amanda Rolle- Varsity Competition Pep Coach (pep tryouts) • Lauren Lake- JV Pep Coach (pep and cheer tryouts) • Taryn Azparren- Frosh Game and Comp Coach (cheer tryouts) • Melanie Loewen- JV Game and Comp Coach (cheer tryouts) • Mrs. Lynd- Central Vice Principal (cheer tryouts) • Mrs. English- Central Vice Principal (pep tryouts) • Nancy Trevino- Varsity Representative (pep tryouts) • Vivian Sanchez- Former Raiderette (pep tryouts)

  9. Please Note • You DO NOT automatically make the pep or cheer team if you have tumbling or superior dance technique. You must show ability in all selection criteria. • You DO NOT automatically make the pep or cheer team if you were on the team last year. All former squad members must tryout again and meet the requirements to make the team.

  10. Clinics • The Varsity and JV Pep Clinic is on Wednesday from 3-4:30 in the Cheer Room between the JV/Varsity Baseball field. • The Varsity Cheer Clinic is on Thursday at 3:00-4:00 in the wrestling room (juniors and seniors). • The JV Cheer Clinic is on Thursday from 4:00-5:00 in the wrestling room (sophomores). • The Frosh Cheer Clinic is on Thursday at 5:00-6:00 in the wrestling room(freshmen).

  11. Tryouts • Must wear a plain white t-shirt, black shorts, tennis shoes (or dance shoes for pep), white socks, and hair in a slick ponytail • Pep Tryout is Thursday in the East Campus Gymnasium at 6:00 PM. Please arrive at 5:30 PM. • Cheer Tryout is on Saturday in the East Campus Wrestling Room from 9 am to 12:00 pm. • Cheer Tryout arrival time: Varsity 8:30 am JV 9:30 am Frosh 10:30 am

  12. Tryout Results • Results of tryouts will be posted online the same day. • Results of tryouts are final. • If you tryout for pep and do not make it, you are invited to tryout for cheer on Saturday. Please email Mrs. Tompkins on Friday to be added to the list.

  13. Hot Shot Coach • If you don’t make the team or change your mind about being a Central Pep or Cheerleader, you can tryout to be a Hot Shot Coach. • We will have 5-6 Hot Shot Coaches. • The tryout to be a coach is May 14th. • You must have a 2.0 GPA on the 12 week progress report and positive teacher evaluations to tryout. • If you are a Hot Shot Coach, you may tryout for a competition team. • Hot Shots will cheer at all home football games, some fall and winter home game sports, all home unified games, and all home Special Olympic events. • All Hot Shot coaches will have to take 7th period PE. • Coaches will wear the current JV uniform.
