2. Major Petkoff Major Petkoff has acquired his position in the army more because of his wealth than his ability. In military strategy he takes help from Boluntschli but believes that he himself has made all his plans. He is however a good father and husband.

3. Catherine Catherine petkoff, Rania’s mother is a middle-aged affected woman, wishes to pass off as a viennese lady she is “ Imperioulsy energetic “ and good looking .

4. Rania She is the heroine of daughter for major Petkoff. She is a romantic and had romantic notions of love and war.

5. Louka Loukaa servant girl in the Petkoff house hold, is proud and looks down on servility. She is ambitious and wishes to rise in life. Nicol wishes to marry her but she has other plans.

6. Sergius Sergius is handsome, as a romantic hero ought to be, has a good position in the army and supposed to be brave. He is supposed to be in love with Rania but flirts with Louka.

7. Nicola He is a middle aged servant of a cool temperament and low but clear and keen intelligence. In his character also presents a member of the some of his socialist ideas.

8. Bluntschli He is a realist . He is a professional soldier, he knows that he is only a tool and he has no illusions about war. This most famous feature is that he keeps chocolates in his cartridge belt rather than bullets.
