Example • Audience: School Nursing Staff in my district • Content: medication management, care coordination for children with asthma ++++++ • Prioritization: 1st emergency medication, 2nd delegation 3rd care coordination • Resource Identification: Missouri webpages, NASN text, neighboring district manual

  8. You Decide: Author/ Committee • Working alone or together? • Who wants to be involved? • Who needs to be involved? • Who can review for accuracy? • Other?

  9. You Decide: Content & Organization • Determine broad topic areas to organize materials • Identify missing materials • Create a Table of Contents draft and then adapt it as needed

  10. You Decide: Manual Template • Choose a template or work from the simple Word document you always use. • The benefit of using a template is that is sets all the styles and fonts so that you end up with a professional looking document.

  11. You Decide: Online or Hard Copy HARD COPY BENEFITS ONLINE BENEFITS Can insert hotlinks Can update easily and more frequently Easier to search for something in the document • Easier to read • Available when electricity is not

  12. Hotlinks Let’s assume I want to insert in my document a hot link to the webpage on Guidelines and Publications for school heath from the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services. First I copy the address from the website. Then I copy it into my word document: https://health.mo.gov/living/families/schoolhealth/pubs.php. Once I hit enter, the website changes to blue and becomes underlined. It is now a hotlink. If I click on it (and my internet is connected), it will take me directly to the site I want! Cool!

  13. Another Hotlink Trick  Write the words, MDHSS Guidelines and Publications. Then drag your cursor over it to highlight it. It will look like this: Next right click on the highlighted words and a screen will come up. In the Address block, copy in the web address. Click OK and the words will now be in blue and underlined. They are hot! If you click on them, you will be taken to the web address. MDHSS Guidelines and Publications

  14. You Decide: Writing Style • Professional • Correct grammar and spelling • Medical, not layman’s terms unless needed • Simple and direct • Use lists, bullets • Easy to read • Use shall and must only for requirements. Otherwise use should or may.

  15. A couple more things! • Title • Crediting resource • Citation • Quotation • Proofreading and Editing • Put documents in pdf
