  2. Last week: • Jesus’ Humanity. • Hebrews 2:5-18 Page 1864 • Philippians 2:1-11 Page 1827 • Jesus’ humanity reminds me that God is approachable because Jesus was tempted.

  3. Looking at it another way! Who can explain this object lesson?

  4. This Week: • Jesus is a friend like no other. • He is still fully God and deserves honour.

  5. The Problem with Friends • They are your peers. • You evaluate their advice. • You are equals.

  6. Philippians 2:6-7 page 1827 • "Who being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made Himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness"

  7. The Claims in John! • JN 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was with God in the beginning. • JN 8:58 "I tell you the truth," Jesus answered, "before Abraham was born, I am!" 59 At this, they picked up stones to stone him, but Jesus hid himself, slipping away from the temple grounds.

  8. John 10:30-33 • 30I and the Father are one.” • JN 10:31 Again the Jews picked up stones to stone him, 32 but Jesus said to them, "I have shown you many great miracles from the Father. For which of these do you stone me?” • JN 10:33 "We are not stoning you for any of these," replied the Jews, "but for blasphemy, because you, a mere man, claim to be God."

  9. He has the right to be Lord! • Matthew 6:24 Page 1505Luke 9:57-62 Page 1611Matthew 10:32-39 Page 1512

  10. Matthew 6:24-25 Page 1505 • MT 6:24 "No one can serve two masters (as a slave!!). Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money. (One leader of your life) • MT 6:25 "Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes?

  11. Luke 9:57-62 Page 1611 • LK 9:57 As they were walking along the road, a man said to him, "I will follow you wherever you go.” 58 Jesus replied, "Foxes have holes and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head.“ 59 He said to another man, "Follow me.“ But the man replied, "Lord, first let me go and bury my father.“ 60 Jesus said to him, "Let the dead bury their own dead, but you go and proclaim the kingdom of God.“ 61 Still another said, "I will follow you, Lord; but first let me go back and say good-by to my family.“ • 62 Jesus replied, "No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for service in the kingdom of God."

  12. Matthew 10:32-39 Page 1512 • "Whoever acknowledges me before men, I will also acknowledge him before my Father in heaven. 33 But whoever disowns me before men, I will disown him before my Father in heaven. • MT 10:34 "Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. 35 For I have come to turn " `a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law– (Micah 7:6) 36 a man's enemies will be the members of his own household.’

  13. Matthew 10:32-39 Page 1512 • MT 10:37 "Anyone who loves his father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; anyone who loves his son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me; 38 and anyone who does not take his cross and follow me is not worthy of me. 39 Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses (put out of the way entirely) his life for my sake will find it. • BBE Matthew 10:39 He who has the desire to keep his life will have it taken from him, and he who gives up his life because of me will have it given back to him.
