  3. WHAT MAKES SUCCESS AT POST-16? Choose the right subjects + Work hard!

  4. 3 or 4 subjects based on GCSE results – it could be better to do just 3 Offers are A, B or C (C is a guided offer) Summer homework will let students know if they really like a subject Bear in mind plans for university(facilitating subjects) Be realistic- GCSE results don’t lie! CHOOSE THE RIGHT SUBJECTS

  5. 6th Form is a student’s job! Students MUST commit themselves to: Minimum 40 hours per week of work (like a job!) 100% attendance and punctuality (like a job!) All homework must be at their target grade – or do it again! Charter College must be the #1 priority in their life Students need to use their increased freedom responsibly WORK HARD

  6. Start as you mean to go on The first five weeks of the first term will define what happens in the next two years There is very limited flexibility to change subjects once students have started and only if agreed by the Director of Learning REINVENT YOURSELF!

A Levels are a relentless examination of your child’s resilience and abilities - academically, mentally and emotionally They are tough, and do not stop for illness, relationship break-ups, bereavement etc. There is a huge jump from GCSE to A levels Your child needs your full support! THESE TWO YEARS ARE RELENTLESS

  8. “I seriously underestimatedthe work.” “I had to limit my social life.” “I wish I’d worked harder from the start.” “My free periods weren’t free!” “I reinvented myself as a learner.” “I smashed my predicted grades.” “Because I chose the right subjects it was much easier to study.” “I know which uni course I want to do now.” YEAR 12 STUDENTS SAY…

  9. School starts at 8.30 sharp every day Students will be put in tutor groups The Stage System lets students (and parents) know when something is wrong Students must be properly equipped Latecomers will NOTbe admitted to lessons Use non-contact hours wisely SOME BASIC RULES

  10. THE UMBRELLA OF SUCCESS! Bad choice of subjects Unemployment The wrong career choice Experience of work – mentoring, careers fairs, workplace visits, shadowing, work experience Volunteering Qualifications Team pursuits – music, sport, drama Hobbies

WHAT ELSE HAPPENS IN YEAR 12? • Mentors(about 60 students are getting this now) • Ambition to Reality (to improve presentation and interview skills) • Employability (we have set up >100 work experiences this year) • Community Action (also helps students with their Uni applications and CVs) • External partners (PwC, King’s College Hospital, IPC, SJ Berwin, National Theatre, orchestras and art galleries)

  12. WHAT SHOULD YOU DO NOW? • Talk to your child about the subjectsthey want to take – how does this impact on future career/university choices? • Research university courses (Which? guide) • Students can reinvent themselves as a learner and as part of the school and wider community
