  1. SELF-SUFFICIENCY Me Taking Care of Me!

  2. The Definition of SELF-SUFFICIENCY • Able to provide for oneself without the help of others. • Being independent. • Being Self-Sustaining; able to provide for your own needs.

  3. Famous Quotes on Self-Sufficiency “I don't need anyone to rectify my existence. The most profound relationship we will ever have is the one with ourselves.” - Shirley Maclaine “Be your own palace, or the world is your jail.” - John Donne “Freedom is the greatest fruit of self-sufficiency” - Epicurus (Greek Philosopher)

  4. Being Self-Sufficient • Becoming self-sufficient will help you establish a sustainable life as well as live in an environment that is productive and healthy. • Learning how to be self-sufficient is not just for yourself but for the well-being of your entire family. • Being self-sufficient means you trust yourself and know enough to make your own life decisions.

  5. Steps to Becoming Self-Sufficient Although becoming self-sufficient is an individual journey, you can begin by examining the following five areas of your life: • Continuing Education • Money Management • Job Readiness • Working with your Resident Services Coordinator (RSC) • Commitment

  6. Steps to Becoming Self-Sufficient • Good Money Management was explored in Module #1 • Job Readiness was explored in Module #2 • Continuing your Education was discussed in Module #4 We will discuss the last two areas in the following slides • Working with your Resident Services Coordinator (RSC) • Committing to whatever it takes to change your life

  7. Working with your RSC • Your RSC is available to help you create an “action plan” to identify and address training, education, counseling, and other supportive services.  • Based on the goals established in your “action plan”, your RSC will inform you of relevant programs, coordinate services, and provide support to help you and your family work toward self-sufficiency and economic empowerment. • Even with the support of your RSC, reaching Self-Sufficiency is up to YOU. You decide how much effort you are willing to put into achieving your personal and professional goals.

  8. Discover your Destiny! I had a Dream and it found a voice,A whispered Hope that Someone heard Because they took the time to look at meAnd help me grow and see my worth. Author Unknown

  9. Committing to Change It’s important to reach Self-Sufficiency so YOU can help YOU! It is better to live a life of PRIDE and SIGNIFICANCE as a result of YOU doing it for yourself, rather than live a life of MEDIOCRITY as a result of waiting for someone else to do it for you.

  10. Changing Your Life is Up to YOU! You can ATTAIN the KNOWLEDGE and the POWER to do it for yourself!! It is up to YOU to produce the comforts, standards, and luxuries you and your family value. It is your CHOICE whether or not you build the foundation you and your family need to live a healthy, comfortable, and productive life.
