  5. ISSUES AFFECTING CASE MANAGEMENT • Caseloads can become unmanageably large • Watch that confidentiality is not compromised • Reframing directions: Objectives may change, unanticipated issues may emerge, or previously undetected strengths • Assess issues of accessibility • Restrict service choices, instead to seek out the informal support network

  6. WRAPAROUND SERVICES • Anchored in the community • Planning is highly individualized • Flexible, non-categorized funding • Follow up and measuring results

  7. MAKING THE WRAPAROUND PROCESS WORK • Requires interagency collaboration • Recognize that each child and family is unique=individualized services • Flexibility of funding essential • Requires top administrative commitments: state/community & local agency level support • Parental advocacy and parent-professional partnerships are crucial • Services offered must have sufficient strength and integrity

  8. SUMMARY • Social systems analysis helps explain how organizations that provide services operate within a social service delivery system. Clients may be able to get their needs met through one organization or, more frequently, they need to be referred to other agencies. Client flowcharts are used to describe how clients move through a service delivery system. Case management is one of the most prevalent forms of assisting clients through the service delivery system. A wraparound program is a way of customizing a broad spectrum of interdisciplinary services to meet the special needs of children and families.

  9. QUESTIONS FOR DISCUSSION • You are in a mental health agency that works with mildly mentally ill persons. They are able to function in the community, but they need jobs. What are the pros and cons of a) offering job counseling and job finding through the agency and b) partnering with another organization that is in the business of job development? • If you decide to work with another organization, what would you need to consider to make the program work for the benefit of your clients?
