  2. Tonight’s programme: • Welcome and introductions • Exam results and key dates for your diary • Assessment grades and expectations • How parents / carers can support • Achievement in English, maths and science • Question and answer session • Evaluation

Y11 Results 2014: • 59% achieved 5 A*-C (including English and maths) • 100% achieved at least one qualification • 99% achieved at least 5 qualifications • 13% achieved 3 or more A / A* grades Year 10 students have the potential to do even better! Target grades are the minimum. Aim for the stars!

  4. Key Dates For Your Diary • Assessment grades home October, February and June (reports) • Y10 Parents’ Evening Thursday 27th November • Y10 internal exams w/c 30th March • Y10 Reports home June

  5. Key Stage 4 and Exam Courses: • All students will study G.C.S.Es in English, English Literature, Maths, Science (Science A and Additional, or Triple Science) Religious Studies. Also, Physical Education core (no exam) • Also study four options subjects • GCSE (external exam and controlled assessment) • BTEC (now has external examined component)

Target grade – minimum grade your child is aiming for by the end of the course Attainment grade - (A*-G) The grade your child is currently working at Estimated grade - (A*-G) The grade the teacher believes Your child will achieve by the end of the course Your child will also receive an Attitude to Learning score 6 times per year N.B. BTEC : Distinction*, Distinction, Merit, Pass

Cause for concern (main cause for concern that is hindering progress (code provided)) (codes: teacher provides one code to highlight the main cause for concern: P – punctuality A – attendance H – homework C – classwork O – organisation CW – coursework / Controlled Assessment

How can parents / carers help? • Monitor attendance • Promote a healthy lifestyle • Home school partnership • Provide tools for successful learning • Monitor work life balance • Help with homework and coursework • Learn from experiences and set targets for the future • Build confidence and celebrate achievements (My School Rewards)

The English Language Course • English Language and Literature are now LINEAR courses worth TWO GCSEs in total. • 60% WJEC Exam Paper for Unit 1 & Unit 2 at the end of Year 11-2016 • 40% of their Controlled Assessment pieces completed between Sept 2014 – Feb 2016 • Internal exams w/c 30th March of Year 10 and December Year 11

The English Literature Course • 35% Unit 1‘Of Mice and Men’ and Poetry at the end of Year 11- 2016 • 40% Unit 2 ‘Lord of the Flies’ and ‘Blood Brothers’ or ‘Heroes’ and ‘An Inspector Calls’ at the end of Year 11- 2016 • 25% Unit 3 Shakespeare and Poetry Controlled Assessment completed by Summer 2015

Homework and Revision • Your child should be bringing home one piece of homework a week– Recorded in their planner • The homework piece should take around 45 minutes • May involve notes on a character, theme or event • Practice exam questions • Please provide your child with a quiet space and time to complete their homework

  13. How can you help us? • Encourage your child to read at home • Encourage them to perfect the skills shown on the learning mat • Ensure your child brings the correct equipment to lessons: exercise book, pen, pencil and ruler. • Celebrate your child's success in English

  15. The Maths Course • Maths is now a LINEAR course • Two Levels: Higher – Grades A* to D Foundation – Grades C to G • Two Papers: Non-calculator 40% Calculator 60%

  16. The Maths Course • Final Exam in June 2016 • Internal exams w/c 30th March 2015 and in December 2015 • Other practice assessments take place throughout the two years

  23. Science-A (core), Additional Science & Triple Science • All Year 10 pupils will study for 2or3 GCSEs in Science. • Like all courses, the exams are now LINEAR. • Therefore the pupils must retain a vast amount of content to the end of Year 11.

  25. How can you help us? • Students need to revise little and often, starting now.Students need to create notes/resources beyond simply completing homework • Purchase an AQA revision guide. We sell ones matched to the course we run. Encourage students to work through this with a revision schedule • Celebrate achievements in Science
