  5. EVSC / CORE 40The following requirements apply to students enteringhigh school since the fall of 2006. • Intended to prepare students for admission to four-year colleges and universities, one and two-year colleges and technical schools, and/or successful entry into the workforce. • English: 8 credits • Social Studies: 6 credits • Mathematics: 6 credits • Science: 6 credits (4 credits for General Diploma) • Health: 1 credit • Physical Education: 3 credits • Directed Electives: 5 credits from World Language, Fine Arts and/or Career/Technical • Electives: 6 credits (Career/Academic sequence recommended) • Total: 41 credits • Students planning to attend four-year colleges are expected to take a minimum of two years • of a world language, advanced English, advanced science, and advanced mathematics • courses.

Academic Honors DiplomaThe following requirements apply to students entering high school since the fall of 2006. • For the Core 40 with Academic Honors diploma, students must also: • Earn 2 additional Core 40 math credits, and • Earn 6-8 Core 40 world language credits, and • Earn 2 Core 40 fine arts credits, and • Earn a grade of “C” or above in courses that will count toward the diploma, and • Have a grade point average of “B” or above, and • Complete one of the following: • Two Advanced Placement courses (4 credits) and corresponding AP exams • Transferable dual high school/college courses from the Core Transfer Library • (6 college credits) • One Advanced Placement course and corresponding AP exam and transferable dual • high school/college course(s) from the Core Transfer Library (3 college credits) • Score 1200 or higher combined SAT math and verbal • Score a 26 or higher composite ACT • An International Baccalaureate Diploma • Earn a minimum of 47 credits

  7. Technical Honors DiplomaThe following requirements apply to students enteringhigh school since the fall of 2006. For the Core 40 with Technical Honors diploma, students must also: Earn a grade of “C” or above in courses that will count toward the diploma, and Have a grade point average of “B” or above, and Complete a career-technical program, resulting in 8 or more credits, and Earn a minimum of 47 credits Complete two of the following, one must be A or B: Score at or above the established proficiency levels on Workeys Complete dual high school/college credit courses in a technical area (6 college credits) Complete a Professional Career Internship course or Cooperative Education course (2 credits) Complete an industry-based work experience as part of a two-year technical education program (minimum 140 hours) Earn a state-approved, industry-recognized certification

  8. General DiplomaThe following requirements apply to students entering high school since the fall 2006. Students who meet the minimum graduation requirements established by the Evansville-Vanderburgh School Corporation and the State of Indiana but do not meet the Core 40 requirements may graduate with a General Diploma. Students will be required to earn: 8 Eng. Credits, 6 Math Credits (including Alg.1), 4 Science Credits (including Biology), 6 Social Studies Credits (US, World, Gov., & Econ.) , 3 PE Credits, 1 Health Credit, 5 Flex Credits and Electives needed to total 41 credits. Pass end-of-course exams in Algebra I and English 10 or meet the requirements for a waiver (2.0 GPA, 95% Attendance, Take ECA’s when offered)

Special Courses Offered at Central High School • JROTC • Project Lead the Way • Biomedical Science-promotes interest in medical professions & prepares students for a post-secondary degree in a medical profession. • Engineering-is a program designed for students seeking more in-depth, hands-on knowledge of engineering & technology based careers.

Central’s Medical Professions Academy Freshman year: Principles of Biomedical Science/Biology IH + Eng. 9/Digital Tools Sophomore year: Human Body Systems/Chemistry I + Eng. 10 + Web Design Junior year: Medical Interventions/Medical Terminology/Advanced Chemistry + English 11/Computer Applications Senior year: Biomedical Innovations/Science Research (Independent Study) + English 12/Anatomy and Physiology **Please see your counselor regarding application process.

Block Schedule Brown Days Gold Days 1st period (7:35-9:05) 2nd period 3rd period (9:12-10:42) 4th period 5th period (10:49-1:08) 6th period 7th period (1:15-2:45) 8th period Lunch will be 5th period on Brown days & 6th period on Gold days you will be assigned A,B or C lunch depending on which class you are in. Lunch periods cannot be changed!

  13. Central Bears Dress to Impress! • Collared polo or dress shirt (solid/striped, small logos only) • Khaki, Black, Brown, Navy dress pants/shorts/skirts (knee length) worn at the waist (no denim or leggings) • Belt (Belt rule enforced if pants are sagging) • No hoodies

  14. Freshman Success • Communicate with your teachers! • Be organized (agenda book, Angel calendar, edease) • Use time wisely • Get involved! • Your future is now….
