Marlys Popma, member of the national McCain for President Campaign, spoke to approximately, forty-five Muscatine County Republicans at the May 1st open house of the GOP Headquarters. She discussed the new health plan proposed by Senator McCain earlier that day in Des Moines.
Ms Popma stated she is working for the election of Senator McCain because he is the candidate most prepared to lead the country, particularly in matters of security. She also answered questions from the audience.
National candidates: Lee Harder and Mariannette Miller-Meeks, candidates for U.S. House of Representatives and Steve Rathje, candidate for U.S Senate, were on hand to meet with local Republicans.
State candidates: Senator Jim Hahn, District 40; Robert Howard, candidate for District 80 Representative and David Kerr, candidate for Senate District 44 attended. Local candidates for Sheriff Michael Wade, C.J. Ryan and Frank Draper were also present.
GOP Headquarters is located at 211 W. 2nd Street and is open weekdays 10:30 AM to 2:30 PM and on Saturday, 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Yard signs, bumper stickers and other campaign materials are available, as well as absentee ballots and voter registration forms.
