  2. Purpose • To share a really good book • To share an exciting author • To share unfamiliar books/authors • To get feedback from others • To get kids interested in books

  3. Preparation • Find out what kids are interested in • Make sure that you’ve read the book • Choose a book that others will like • Practice • Write page numbers an notes on a “stickie”

  4. Content • Share a strong lead • Tell about book, but don’t give away secrets • Mention other books by the same author—series • Don’t get confusing • Tell title, author and why you chose to share it • Show book around, but don’t fidget with it • Read a passage

  5. How to Give a Book Talk • Look at everyone. • Speak loudly so all can hear. • Talk about the characters, the problem in the story, or some interesting information. • Read a small part of the book to interest the readers. • Get the reader’s interested in the book.

  6. Book title • Author’s Name • Publication Date • Any Awards

  7. Setting • Describe the setting of the book (be sure to include time and place) • Add a picture or clip art

  8. Main Character • Describe the main character. Include what the character looks (outside characteristics/ physical appearance) and how the character acts (inside characterization/ personality).

  9. Supporting Characters • Introduce and describe supporting characters

  10. Plot • What happens in the beginning of the story? • What is the problem or obstacle that the main character(s) face? • (Don’t give away the ending)

  11. Reflection • What connections did you make with this story? • What do you think was the author’s purpose for writing this story? • What did you learn about yourself, others, or the world from reading this story? • How has this story affected you (your actions and beliefs)? • How do you rate this book? Why?
