SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT • Transfer of instructional materials adoption responsibilities to Dan Blackwood • State Board approval of the School Improvement Memorandum of Understanding • Student achievement gains in 20 of 21schools targeted for technical assistance • Improved student attendance in six of seven schools that had been designated as seriously impaired due to poor students attendance

INSTITUTIONAL EDUCATION • Received national accreditation at Anthony Correctional Center, Davis Center and the West Virginia Industrial Home for Youth • Applaud Mark Hedrick -Correctional Education Association Regional Teacher of the Year • Implemented a writing assessment program in institutions • Trained Juvenile and Youthful Offender Program instructional staff on the content standards • Opened a new education program in the Lakin Correctional Center for Women • Received commendations and high marks from the Division of Technical and Adult Education for adult education and career and technical education programs in institutions
