  2. Growing cynicism about going green? ‘Evidence is mounting of a growing cynicism regarding green initiatives within the IT infrastructure space. We may be reaching a point where vendor hype has hit a saturation point and beginning to meet with customer resistance. While there is a genuine concern about data centre power consumption, particularly with regard to accommodating increasingly dense technology footprints, the larger concern for most, particularly in the current climate, is controlling costs.’ ComputerWorld 2008 Are we any less cynical in 2014? International Sustainable Campus Network Common Themes • controlling energy costs with a strong emphasis on detailed measurement of energy consumption • adapting and constructing buildings to meet sustainability benchmarks (LEED, BREEAM) • integrating academic research into sustainability with linked student projects (engaging the campus community) • a strong internal network that reinforces commitment to sustainability

BOSTON – THE HARVARD AND MIT EXPERIENCE • Both have a strong track record in sustainability • The Green Campus Initiative -It all started with compliance – improvement order re. polluted river • Principles mirror those identified in Zurich – much we can learn • Student engagement a strong feature - embedding sustainability principles within education and day to day living

  6. The concept of a triple bottom line (TBL or 3BL) adds two more "bottom lines”: social and environmental concerns. The three together are often paraphrased as "Profit, People, Planet“.
