  1. Starfinder Foundation Get Fit, Eat Right, Grow Strong: Starfinder Foundation’s Fitness and Nutrition Program Spring 2012 Pretest

Get Fit, Eat Right, Grow Strong Starfinder’s Get Fit, Eat Right, Grow Strong program: is a program of fitness and nutrition education for urban elementary and middle school children. consists of both a physical activity and a health education component, which teaches participants about the relationship between physical activity, healthy eating and good health.

  3. Get Fit, Eat Right, Grow Strong Goals of the program include: Understand the benefits of healthy eating practices, including characteristics of different food groups and information displayed in the Nutrition Information Panel. Understand the benefits of physical activity. Express a favorable attitude toward physical activity. Express a favorable attitude toward healthy eating practices. Practice healthy eating habits and increased physical activity.

  4. Get Fit, Eat Right, Grow Strong Activities involved in the program include: sixty minutes of rigorous physical activity every session. hands-on classroom activities that introduce, develop, and extend knowledge and understanding about proper nutrition, healthy food choices, food science, food preparation, and the relationship between nutrition and health. the provision of a nutritious snack to each attendee at each session and the distribution of an environmentally appropriate water container for every participant.

Methods Future Leaders I: completed 10-question survey questions addressed healthy eating and exercise knowledge, attitudes and behaviors Future Leaders II and Junior Leaders: completed a 12-question survey questions addressed healthy eating and exercise knowledge, attitudes and behaviors Survey was administered at Starfinder during the Spring 2012 program

  6. Demographics Survey completed by: 87 middle school-aged Junior Leaders and older elementary school-aged Future Leaders II 82 younger elementary school-aged Future Leaders I
