TAFD 120/125 COURSE DESCRIPTION: • Presents a comprehensive approach to safety, designed to give the skilled tradesperson the knowledge of safety fundamentals and practices, from the causes of accidents to the study of safety hazards and rules associated with equipment and tools utilized in modern industrial facilities.

  5. TAFD 120/125 COURSE GOALS: 1. To provide the knowledge and skills to become familiar with the basic safety practices and principles. 2. To provide a foundation of skills and understandings of fundamentals, procedures, and principles relative to safe working practices in the industrial environment. 3. Develop critical thinking and problem solving skills in identifying specific non-safe conditions and define and solve safety problems relating to the job floor.

  6. TAFD 120/125 MEASURABLE COURSE OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course, students should be able to: 1. Identify and explain safety rights and responsibilities. 2. Identify and explain hazard communication standards. 3. Demonstrate the basics of machine shop safety including lock-out and tag-out.

  7. TAFD 120/125 MEASURABLE COURSE OBJECTIVES: 4. Explain electrical safety, power and hand tool safety, equipment safety, and machine guarding. 5. Identify and explain basic health safety issues including occupational stress. 6. Explain the basics of confined space entry.

  8. TAFD 120/125 MEASURABLE COURSE OBJECTIVES: 7. Explain the safety issues of material handling. 8. Identify the basics of fire safety as it relates to the industrial environment. 9. Explain the purpose and intent of industrial safety awareness.

  10. TAFD 120/125 REQUIRED SUPPLIES: • Three Ring Binder, Pencils, Paper

  11. TAFD 120 • Course Work Each of the topics for the OSHA 30-Hour General Industry Outreach Training Program Course will have one or more worksheets, review sheets, and or exercises assigned. Each will have a specific point value. Students will be required to complete all worksheets, review sheets, and exercises for class credit. The final grade will be determined by taking the points accumulated and dividing them by the points possible..

  12. TAFD 125 • Course Work • OSHA portion is the same as for TAFD 120 • Red Cross written tests and practical application tests (First Aid, CPR, and AED’s).

  13. TAFD 120/125 GRADING SCALE: 100 - 95% = A 94 - 85% = B 84 - 75% = C 74 - 70% = D 69 - below = E

TAFD 120/125 STUDENT REQUIREMENTS • To receive an OSHA 30-Hour General Industry Outreach Training Program Course completion card, a student must attend all required elements of the outreach class. • To receive any of the American Red Cross completion cards, a student must attend all required elements of the topics.

  15. TAFD 120/125 ATTENDANCE POLICY: • No excused absences. Maximum allowable number is two (2). The third (3rd) absence means automatic failure but the class can still be attended. TARDINESS/LEAVING EARLY: • Tardiness and/or leaving early added up to 60 minutes will be counted as an absence.

  16. TAFD 120/125 MAKEUP TRAINING If a student misses any portion of the required OSHA 30-Hour General Industry Outreach Training Program Course, the trainer may conduct makeup training for that student, in accordance with these requirements: • Students may makeup the portion of the training they missed within six months of the start of the training. • Makeup training can only be performed by the same trainer.  

  17. TAFD 120/125 CLASSROOM RULES OF CONDUCT & POLICY: ATTIRE: • Clothing appropriate for the classroom is requested. Cheating and Plagiarism: • Refer to the current HFCC Catalog

  18. TAFD 120/125 CLASSROOM RULES OF CONDUCT & POLICY: • DROP POLICY: • Students may officially drop a class and receive a DR grade anytime up until the end of the tenth week. If a student stops attending without officially withdrawing, the instructor may record either an E or a DR grade.

  19. TAFD 120/125 CELL PHONE USAGE: • The use of cell phones or any electronic devices with video or photographic capture and/or transfer capabilities is not permitted in the classroom during scheduled class times.
