  24. Working Hours

  25. During my first year of teaching, I worked 70 to 80-hour weeks, including time worked during the school day, in the evenings and over the weekend

  26. 1.To make PowerPoint2. To create worksheet (character books, HW, class work, etc.)3. To contact parents (HW, TESTS, QUIZZES, etc.)4. To communicate with other teachers5. To observe classes6. To make Chinese FUN!

  27. challenges

  28. My biggest challengewas developing reasonable expectations, from behavior to work effort to quality of work. It took me months to get used to typical adolescent behavior—their language, their humor, their sensitivity, their sometimes nonchalant attitude toward school work. And their mood swings! Now I'm much more relaxed with my students, much more compassionate, and patient.

  29. I would advise new teachers to think very carefully about their expectations—and that doesn't mean giving up on high expectations—it just means working to understand the minds and the abilities of their students.

  30. Thank you!
