  1. Team Leader Training GCSE Citizenship Studies 5CS02 and 5CS04 Summer 2014

  2. Getting Started …….. Prior to the Standardisation Meeting: • Send a welcome email-follow with phone call if no reply. • Notify PM if there is still no response so that action can be taken. • 3. Keep a log of your calls/emails on the Team Leader Quality Log. Update throughout the moderation period. New Moderator Training - Summer 2012

  3. At the beginning …….. • 1. New TL’s are required to send a sample of the work from one centre in order to be cleared to moderate. • 2. As soon as possible, send the work of one of your team that you have checked to the PM as a means of their monitoring your performance as a TL. • 3. Please cc the PM into emails you send to moderators. • 4. Log all E6’s of your team and ensure there is follow up to any which have no response. Notify PM of any problems. New Moderator Training - Summer 2012

  4. Managing the team Check that all moderators are entering marks and reports as the work is completed. It is not helpful to have a backlog of outstanding reports. Your Team send you their Centre Record Forms to use when approving reports. New Moderator Training - Summer 2012

  5. Checking the Moderator Centre Record Forms 1 In order to identify who records on the forms: Moderators use black ink, TL uses blue ink and PM uses green ink. The subsample for the centre should be listed in rank order-highest candidate first. Check on the OPTEMS that these are the highest and lowest candidates. New Moderator Training - Summer 2012

  10. Role as the Team Leader Send evidence/inform PM regarding any moderator of whom you have concerns. If using email, use initials or AA number. Reasons for referral: • This could be due to : speed of work (too fast/not adhering to dates) • Poor admin, lack of communication • Non-compliance with procedures New Moderator Training - Summer 2012

  11. When to take action Difficulties encountered. • Give advice if reports are lacking in content or not sufficiently detailed in constructive comments. • If a moderator’s first sample causes concern, do not hesitate to ask for a second complete sample. Discuss with PM first. • Clearly discuss with the moderator how their work is not meeting assessment requirements. Give the Moderator a date by which this must be completed and sent to you. • If the second sample is still unsatisfactory, evidence and notes must be sent to the PM as soon as possible. New Moderator Training - Summer 2012

  12. Approving Reports from Moderators • The TL must not approve any reports until the PM has monitored the Moderator reports. The PM will contact the TL when they can start to approve their team’s reports. • Check that Moderators have completed the Report for the Centre (E9) as they moderate and input the marks for the Centre. • All reports must include comments on: • Administrative performance-positive and deficiencies • Centre Assessment • Candidate performance • Issues that worked well. • Constructive comments for future series e.g.appropriate issues for raising awareness/campaign. Centre Assessor recommendation for training . (if applicable) The TL can request amendment of reports by the Moderator-ask them to send the first two or three to you in a Word Document so that you can advise before it is submitted. You are the only person who can amend it after submission. New Moderator Training - Summer 2012

  13. Writing the Moderator Reports (E13) Be as positive as possible, but suggest the way forward for future improved performance if there were problems during moderation. Send the first one to PM for monitoring purposes. Consult the PM regarding the ‘grade’ given before submitting. New Moderator Training - Summer 2012

Should you find any good CA’s, and the marks are agreed by the Moderator and yourself, please send it to the PM for awarding.
