  1. Building a Newtonian Contraption • Design a structure that will protect a raw egg from breaking when dropped from a distance of 25 feet. (convert to meters) • Remember your design must withstand: force, speed, acceleration, and the momentum of falling from 25 feet.

  2. Egg Drop Instructions • 1.Each group will have one raw egg, 30 straws and 30cm of masking tape. • 2.You must use all materials given BUT ONLY the given materials. • 3. You will only get one chance to drop your egg in its “ Newtonian Contraption”

  3. Egg Drop LabPre Lab • Research the following questions and answer. • 1. What variables are required to calculate speed, acceleration, force, and momentum? • 2. Will your egg reach terminal velocity? Why or Why Not? Make sure that you explain your answer. • 3. How will friction effect the drop? • 4. What type of surface would be best for the drop? Why? • 5. What type of design will be required to protect the egg from breaking? Why?

  4. Data Table • Create a data table to collect required information about the egg and contraption. • Possible factors to include on data table: Distance, time, direction, state, etc. • Remember to include quantitative and qualitative data.

  5. Post Lab Questions • Calculate the following for your egg drop: Speed, Acceleration rate, Force, and Momentum. Show your equations! • Did your egg break? Why or Why Not? Answer either question 3 or 4 depending on your outcome. • What factors would you change to keep your egg from breaking? • What factors kept your egg from breaking? • Draw, label, and explain your design.
