  4. Sunlight - #1 Consideration • Necessity • Full sunlight • Minimum 8-10 hrs./day • Stay clear of shrubs & trees • Stay clear of buildings - esp. N side

  5. Drainage • Allows water to escape • Tests can determine drainage • Make sure site is not pool • Not near streams • Water exposure can kill plants

  6. Drainage - cont. • Soils made of solids & voids • Overcoming Poor Drainage • Surface ditches • Deep plowing • Add Organic Matter
