BAS-FY04-01 Large Vessel Interface Lift-on/Lift-off Technical Description Develop the capability, using an advanced crane, to transfer ISO containers to and from various ships through the high end of Sea State 4. TRL at Transition: 6 At-sea demo: 1Q FY10 S&T Focus • Mature technologies to reduce technical risk for future advanced at-sea lift-on/lift-off systems by conducting at-sea container transfers with a large-scale technology demonstrator (TRL 6). • Container transfer capacity to be demonstrated: • 40,000 lbs in SS3 • 20,000 lbs in SS4 • Transfer operations to be demonstrated: • In port container self load / unload to a pier and to a lighter (Harbor scenario) • At-sea self load / unload from the deck of a container ship (Seabasing scenario) Warfighting Payoff • Enables transfer of ISO containers from the cargo ships to the shore through the Sea Base. • Eliminates the requirement for a friendly port to unload containers destined for the shore. • Provides a logistics capability that does not exist today. BAS-FY06-01 High Speed Seabase-to-Shore Connector UNCLASSIFIED • Product Description: • Develop a full-scale composite, wear-resistant, high efficiency lift fan suitable for demonstration on an LCAC. Objectives: 50% weight reduction,10% increase in efficiency, and 50% reduction in time for fan maintenance • Develop a full-scale lightweight, variable geometry skirt/seal suitable for demonstration on an LCAC. Incorporate advanced materials and design improvements to reduce wear on high maintenance portions of the skirt: Objectives: enable Sea State 4/5 operations at 35 knots while maintaining well deck operability. UNCLASSIFIED Graphic Product Description: Develop the capability, using advanced dynamic positioning, to position the Mobile Landing Platform (MLP) ship relative to other ships to enable the use of cranes and ramps to conduct at-sea transfer of vehicles, personnel, and material through Sea State 4. Affordable Modular Panoramic Photonics Mast BAS-FY07-02 Interface Ramp Technologies Technical Description Will develop and demonstrate an advanced lightweight ramp that provides the capability to load/unload combat wheeled and tracked vehicles between the JHSV and Roll-on Roll-off Discharge Facilities (RRDF). The ramp will be operable in SS3(T) and SS4(O) at transit speeds of 0-4 knots, and will meet the requirements of the current JHSV ramp in regards to footprint, electrical interface, and ship displacement. S&T Focus • Hybrid hydrodynamic/structural modeling will determine the effects of the ship motions on the ramp and the ramp/ship connection. • Advanced motion control will measure and compensate for the large relative motions between the ship, ensuring soft touchdown and minimal thrust transfer between the vessels. • Innovative structures with directionally-tailored material properties will provide an optimum balance of strength, weight, and flexibility. • Situational awareness software will measure, record, and provide in real-time the information necessary for the ship’s masters and transfer system operators to ensure safe vehicle transfer. Warfighting Payoff • This ramp will enable the JHSV to offload quickly and efficiently in the types of austere ports and quay walls common in developing countries, as well as in an at-sea environment up to SS3(T) and SS4(O). The technology will be remotely controlled and monitored and will permit reliable instant release of each gripe or all gripes on command. Technology will be operational through Sea State 4. BAS-FY08-01 UNCLASSIFIED UNCLASSIFIED Enterprises Supported: NAE, SWE BAS-FY08-01 Automated / Semi-Automated Weapons Breakout and Build-Up System • Product Description: • This technology will use heavy-lift capable, dexterous robotics and advanced vision/recognition systems to demonstrate the automated assembly of component-based weapons. The technology developed for CBWs would also apply to the automated breakout of all-up-round weapons. The overall product is a system that will provide to a USMC logistics battlefield planner a tool that will automate key elements of the formulation of USMC logistics Courses of Support (COS). This planning and decision support tool will automate the collection, storage and distribution of defined logistics data, for real time and near real time situational awareness of logistics resources and consumption. The system will enable knowledge creation based on acquired information, provide plan vs. actual assessments, provide analysis for appropriate decision trade spaces and provide recommendations for concept of support (COS) creation and execution. This embedded health management tool will apply novelty detection and assessment using distributed neural networks for machinery fault detection and will automate the collection and storage of defined vehicle logistics data, for real time and near real time situational awareness. Key to the system will be an expandable, open architecture network of wireless intelligent sensing nodes to support evolving platform awareness requirements. For logistics planners, courses of action will be automatically generated in response to requests for support from operational forces. Advanced technologies for monitoring, assessing and reporting fuel location and status will be developed, as well as Battlefield Fuel Management decision support tools for both logisticians and the operational commander. UNCLASSIFIED UNCLASSIFIED BAS-FY08-03Portable Fuel Quality Analysis Product Description: The Portable Fuel Quality Analyzer (PFA) product will be a system that automates the monitoring and logistics operations associated with captured or foraged fuel in support of MAGTF planning. The system will give the operational commander and logistics planners a real-time view of fuel quality, quantity and availability in the Amphibious Objective Area. This capability will provide for the generation of Logistics Courses of Action (COAs) for rapid responses to anticipated needs based on near real-time data from the operational forces. UNCLASSIFIED Affordable Modular Panoramic Photonics Mast BAS-FY11-01 Environment and Ship Motion Forecasting Technical Description Will provide capability to forecast wind, waves and ship motions for up to several minutes into the future to support go/ no-go decisions for cargo transfer and other operations, to include ship-to-ship and shipboard systems. Information will also be distributed to the ship’s data network in a format suitable for input to feed-forward control algorithms for motion compensation. S&T Focus • Integration of a multi-sensor system to provide a real-time snapshot of wave and wind fields. • Incorporation of real-time data into wind / wave propagation and ship predictive motion models. • Development of ship motion prediction capability appropriate for feed-forward control systems. • Provide visual aids and decision making capability to shipboard operators. Warfighting Payoff • Enables the warfighter to make informed decisions regarding onboard and ship-to-ship operations via wind and wave forecasts and predicted ship motions.

UNCLASSIFIED Affordable Modular Panoramic BAS-FY11-01 Advanced Mooring System Technical Description This product provides for the automated mooring and positioning of lightweight hull connectors and high flare container ships alongside sea based platforms through the use of sensors, control algorithms, and responsive actuators through Sea State 4. The technology will enable ships to moor in a fraction of the time as compared to traditional mooring systems, while increasing safety and reducing relative ship motions.
