  2. What Are Outcomes? • Department- and Course-Level Outcomes • Course Objectives on the District Syllabus • Detailed Expectations on Individual Faculty Syllabi • Program- and College-Level Outcomes • Global Learning Outcomes (GLO) • Program Student Learning Outcomes (PSLO)

  3. How Does Outcomes Assessment Differ from Course and Assignment Grades? 1. Type of skills being assessed/evaluated • Course assessment and evaluation activities are generally tied to objectives found in district and individual faculty syllabi. • Outcomes assessment , on the other hand, is generally correlated to GLOs or PSLOs.

  4. 2. Number of skills being assessed — Course grades and specific assignment grades ordinarily include a number of different skills or objectives. • Outcomes assessment , on the other hand, normally focuses upon one particular GLO or PSLO.

  5. 3. Uses of assessment results • Assignment grades ordinarily reflect student learning of a number of course objectives. Course grades reflect the student’s overall performance in terms of the objectives for the entire course. • Outcomes assessment , on the other hand, is not ultimately tied to individual students. Aggregate data is used by departments, programs, and the college to improve student learning.

  6. Designing GLO/PSLO Outcomes Assessments • Specific programs and departments ordinarily choose an outcome from those appropriate to the program (PSLO) or general education course (GLO). Departments usually measure one particular outcome per course per semester. • Unless the department provides a set assessment tool, select or develop a relevant assessment project (possibly part of an existing assignment).

  7. 3. Determine as a program, department, or individual faculty member what result constitutes mastery, competence, developing, or beginning level for that outcome. (The GLO rubrics developed by the Assessment Committee will be helpful.)

  8. Reporting Assessment Results • Assess every course you teach that falls under GLO or PSLO categories. • Report results using the procedure specified by your department head. For GLO reporting, use e-roster. Simple instructions for reporting GLO results may be found on the PSC Assessment Website: http://pensacolastateassessment.wordpress.com/
