Basic Student Eligibility Requirements: • Must have final high school/transfer transcript on file with admissions office • Must be enrolled at least ½ time • Must be taking courses required for program • Must meet satisfactory academic progress requirements • Must not be in default on a federal student loan nor in repayment of a federal grant @CWUFinAid

  3. REVIEW YOUR AID AWARD on MyCWU, then… • Make a budget for each quarter • Accept only the aid you need • Reduce offered aid if necessary • Never stop looking for and asking about SCHOLARSHIPS

  5. SUBMIT INFORMATION ONLINE You can upload Financial Aid documents to your “To Do List” from your MyCWU account

  6. TYPES OF FINANCIAL AID: • Gift Aid: does not have to be paid back • Tuition Awards • Grants • Scholarships • Self Support: award is either earned through employment or must be paid back after graduation • Work Study • Loans (Sub, unsub, PLUS) • Private loans-bank/credit union

  7. TYPES OF FINANCIAL AID cont.: • THIRD PARTY SUPPORT • GI Bill • Veterans Benefits • Third Party Assistance • Many 3rd party payments go directly to Student Accounts

Work Study • Similar to any other student employment position on campus • How it works • Work Study is awarded based on a student’s “need” • Need calculation: • Cost of Attendance (COA) • Expected Family Contribution (EFC – from the FAFSA) • - “Gift Aid” (grants, scholarships, waivers, etc.) • Work Study Eligibility • Student works the hours • Student receives a paycheck

Work Study Eligibility Requirements • Must have completed the FAFSA • Must have “need” • Must be in good academic Standing • Must be enrolled in at least ½ time (6 credits for undergrads, 5 credits for grads) • PRO: • Reduce the amount you borrow • Work experience • CON: • Less money at the start of the quarter when charges are due

  14. REFUNDS OF AID FOR EDUCATIONAL EXPENSES • Only processed after tuition, fees & other charges are paid in full • Processing begins10 days after quarter begins

  15. Direct Deposit • Fastest and most secure way to receive refund • Complete a Direct Deposit Form at Cashiers OfficeBarge Hall 104 or online thru your MyCWU portal!

  16. HELPFUL HINTS! • Processing times vary. Peak periods can be slower. • Minimum of 4 weeks • Check your @cwu.edu email at least weekly • View your to-do list at my.cwu.edu • Read the Conditions of Award Policy • Included in your award letter • File the FAFSA every year • Scholarship Central Application: Oct 1 - Feb 1 • Submit final transcripts to Admissions Ask questions!
