Male fertility • Starts at puberty age until death. • It means that the male body is now producing “sperm” and he has now the capacity to get a woman pregnant. • The "sperm” is the male contribution in pregnancy. • The life span of the sperm is 3-5 days inside the woman's body. • The man is fertile everyday of his life until his death. Female Fertility • Starts at the first on set of menstruation. • This means that she is beginning to have one egg cell ripen and she is ready to get pregnant. • The egg cell is the female contribution in pregnancy. • The woman is fertile only during “ovulation”. • Ovulation happens only once during the “Ovulatory Phase” of the menstrual cycle. • Female fertility will end up to ”menopause” stage.   8. The MENSTRUAL CYCLE • It will start on the first day of menstruation and end up on the last day before the start of the next menstruation. • There are 4 menstrual phases: MENSTRUATION OVULATORY POST-OVULATORY PRE-OVULATORY Responsible Parenthood and All-Natural Family Planning Program

  9. Menstrual Phase • Starts on the first day of menstruation. • Menstrual bleeding is the result of the shedding off of the uterine lining. This means that the woman is not pregnant. • Menstruation usually happens 4-6 days. • Menstruation is a normal condition of a woman's body and does not mean that she is sick or has sickness. Pre-Ovulatory Phase • Menstruation had stopped or ceased already. • Egg cell starts to develop . • The uterine lining is beginning to thicken. • There is a mucus plug at the cervix. • The woman is experiencing feelings of dryness and no mucus is seen. • Pre- Ovulatory phase is known to be relatively infertile days. Ovulatory Phase • Cervix is now open. • Wet is the feeling experienced by the woman. • Mucus are watery, slippery, clear and stretchy are seen and felt.(fertile mucus) • Mucus nourishes sperms and filters abnormal sperms , too. • Uterine lining continue to thicken • One matured egg is released from the ovary and stays at the fallopian tube for about 24 hrs. • The life span of the egg cell is 24 hours only. Post-Ovulatory Phase • If there is no meeting of the sperm and egg cell, the egg cell disintegrate and is reabsorbed by the body. • The cervix is closed again • The woman feels dryness and no mucus is seen. • Post-ovulatory phase is known to be absolutely infertile days . • The uterine lining thickens again. • Because the woman is not pregnant, she will again experience menstruation.
