  2. He was born in 1876, April 3rd in Zlín. • He died in 1932, July 12th in Otrokovice. • He, his brother Antonín and their sister Anna were founders of the shoe company Baťa. • He changed the city of Zlín according to his idea for the use of his company.

  3. Childhood • His father was shoemaker –Antonín Baťa. He was the third child in the family. • When he was 10 year-old-boy, his mother died. • Two years later- Anna, Antonín, Thomas, his father and his new mother left Zlín and they moved to Uherské Hradiště. • He visited other school, where he had to learn German language.

  4. First artistic steps When he was 12 years old he started to be interested in craft. He tried to make and sell shoes. When he was 14 he left home. He went to Prostějov, where he worked in factory Fäber, where they made shoemaking maschinery. He was interested in machinery accelerating work. He came back to father‘s workshops but they had aguments, so he had to go to Wienna to his sister Anna. She helped him and he started his business. He left Wienna because he didn‘t know it there. He went to his father to Uherské Hradiště where he became a businessman.

  5. Anna, Antonín and Tomáš paid out their father. They estabilished shoe trade in Zlín. First they produced quilted shoes. They employed workers who worked fixed working hours for regular weekly wages.

  6. The company is still in Zlín. The company produces shoes around the world.
