  1. What is Technology? IET 600 Blaine Menke

  2. Definition: According to Merriam Webster • the application of scientific knowledge for practical purposes, esp. in industry.
"advances in computer technology” • machinery and equipment developed from the application of scientific knowledge. • the branch of knowledge dealing with engineering or applied sciences.

  3. Technology of the Past • Romans built roads, roman arches, aqueducts, and invented concrete. • Chinese founded metal casting, the compass, paper, gun powder, use of natural gas, mechanical clock mechanisms, row drop farming, and silk. • Egyptians built the pyramids, come up with the 365 day calender, first clocks (using either a sundial or a water clock).

  4. Technology of the Present • Medical Field: Development of the artificial heart, Laser Eye surgery, and robotic arms and legs. • Wireless Technology: we are connected to the internet no matter where we go, we are not tethered to a specific location. • Internet has become a necessity for every day life. • Energy: we can now harness the power of the sun.

  5. Technology of the Future (predictions) • Zero size computer intelligence • Space travel for the average man • Neurohacking/Neuromarketing • Quantum Control • Youth Tech Movements • Nanotechnology

  6. Positive Impact • Transportation • Communication • Architecture • Entertainment • Medicine • Modern Warfare • Education

  7. Negative Impact The negative impacts of technology depends on the singular person’s view on the matter. Technology has spread into every single part of our life, whether we like it or not. The greatest thing about modern society is that we have the freedom to choose. Not everyone is going to have the same opinion about whether a Kindle is not necessary because to really dive into a book you need to turn the pages. Not everyone feels the same about chemical war fare or even about texting. That is the magic behind it all.

  8. Impact of technology • In most part, I see technology as a more positive than negative influence on society. Without technology, humans would not be able to evolve and grow the way that we have. • The rate at which technology is changing shows us great hope for the future. One particular area is in medicine. We are extending our lifespan and curing new diseases all the time. That alone makes technology a positive impact.

  9. Impact of Technology continued… • We think what we have seen thus far with technological advancements is incredible, but what’s to come is hard to fathom. I cant wait to see the improvements and bounds made during my lifetime.
