  6. ECHS Program Overview • Early College High Schools (ECHS) are a blend of the traditional high school and college into one educational program. • Only HS designated by the Texas Education Agency can be called ECHS.

  7. Early College HS • Students in Early College High Schools take a rigorous curriculum of Pre-AP, AP, and Dual Enrollment high school courses to prepare them for a FULL college curriculum beginning in the 9th grade and continuing thru 12th grade. • College Tuition and textbooks are completely free.

  8. STEM Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics

  9. ECHS with STEM Focus Overview • STEM is similar to the ECHS • Academic focus is on STEM pathways

  10. ECHS is a State Initiative • TEA requires a partner of higher education for each ECHS. • South Texas College • Early College High Schools are small. Only 125-175 students are admitted as freshmen each year.
