  3. INDIAN DIET:Religion vs. Science • Indian thali (dish) consists mostly of milk, tea, fruits, vegetables, variety of spices, bread and rice • Hinduism prohibits consumption of any animal • In Jainism, aside from animals, they are also not allowed to consume root crops (potato, onion, etc.)

  4. Curry – vitamins and minerals • Spices – different nutritional values • Rice – carbohydrates • Lentils – proteins (substitute for animal protein) • Buttermilk – good for digestion • Curd – protein, calcium • Paan – aids digestion; mouth freshener

CLOTHING:Traditional vs. Modern • Indian traditional attires are worn everyday both in casual and formal situations • Women mostly wear SAREE, KURTI and SHALWAR KAMEEZ • Men mostly wear SHERWANI,KURTA and DOTTI • Indians wear BINDI and TILAKA on their foreheads as part of their custom, for religious purposes, and in the present, for fashion • MEHENDI (henna tattoo) – worn during weddings
